RENTA DE LA TIERRA Y PAGO DE SERVICIOS AMBIENTALES EN LA SIERRA NORTE DE PUEBLA

Abstract

Con el propósito de generar estrategias que ayuden a tomar decisiones sobre el Programa de Pago de Servicios Ambientales Hidrológicos (PSAH) en los municipios de Chignahuapan y Zacatlán, Puebla se estimó, a través del Método Costo de Oportunidad, la renta de la tierra con uso agrícola, forestal y pecuario, y se determinaron las características químicas de los suelos de aptitud forestal para evaluar los impactos sobre ellas ante los cambios de uso. Los resultados indican que el PSAH no ha sido exitoso en el área de estudio; sin embargo, para que sea atractivo a los propietarios forestales se les debería compensar con al menos $1,516.50 ha-1 año-1, cantidad que representa el costo de oportunidad (CO) de los terrenos con uso potencial forestal que pueda obtenerse por el uso pecuario; mientras que el CO para los agrícola y pecuario correspondió a $1,829.50 ha-1 año-1 que pudiera obtenerse por el uso forestal. El estudio reveló que suelos bajo un uso potencial forestal presentan características de productividad superior y son más aptos para brindar mayor diversidad de servicios ambientales, en contraste con aquellos terrenos que sustentan usos agrícolas y pecuarios. Por tanto, además de la renta de la tierra forestal y de los beneficios derivados de alguna actividad que soporte, es importante que el PSAH considere los costos de los impactos ambientales que se pueden producir ante un cambio de uso potencial de la tierra.
