CAPTURA DE CARBONO POR Cedrela odorata L. EN UNA PRUEBA GENÉTICA

Abstract

A partir del papel principal del CO2 en el calentamiento global, el almacenamiento de carbono efectuado por los árboles, como resultado de la fotosíntesis, permite la mitigación del efecto invernadero. El valor genético de estos organismos varía, y por lo tanto su capacidad de captura y contenido del mismo. Por ello, y con el objetivo de conocer las diferencias en tres procedencias de Cedrela odorata : Catemaco, La Antigua y Misantla del estado de Veracruz con cuatro familias en la primera y ocho en las dos restantes, que se establecieron en una prueba de procedencias / progenie localizada en el Ejido La Balsa, municipio de Emiliano Zapata, Veracruz; se evaluó la altura y el DAP de ejemplares a los ocho años de edad. A partir de su volumen se estimó la concentración de carbono en la biomasa aérea a través del método del IPCC modificado por Mendizábal-Hernández. Se practicó un análisis de varianza (GLM) con un modelo lineal de efectos fijos. El carbono estimado total con la prueba genética fue de 3,111.07 kg. Solamente se presentaron diferencias significativas para la variación entre árboles, lo fue, lo que da la posibilidad de realizar una selección individual para incrementar la captura de carbono. Por lo tanto, se concluye que la eficiencia de captura puede incrementarse en futuras plantaciones, a partir de la progenie conocida, con la selección de los mejores individuos.
