El Apocalipsis del Ozono:

Abstract

Nuestro planeta es constantemente bombardeado por una gran diversidad de radiaciones, que incluyen partículas y ondas electromagnéticas de diversas frecuencias, es la llamada radiación cósmica. Esta radiación incluye emisiones ionizantes y no ionizantes. Entre estas últimas, la luz ultravioleta (LUV) tiene una gran importancia dada sus implicaciones biológicas. Por su parte, el planeta tiene una defensa natural contra la radiación cósmica, y en especial la LUV es mayormente retenida por una banda atmosférica llamada “capa de ozono” localizada en la estratósfera terrestre. En los últimos 40 años, se han detectado oscilaciones de la capa de ozono que han puesto en alerta a la comunidad científica en cuando a las repercusiones que esto puede tener sobre la vida en el planeta. En este artículo, se tratan en forma resumida las consecuencias de la alteración en los niveles de ozono estratosféricos en la diversidad de efectos biológicos dañinos de la LUV, pero también, en contraparte, se contemplan algunos de los usos benéficos que esta radiación no ionizante tiene.
