Abstract

Medir los pliegues cutáneos permite valorar los depósitos de grasa del cuerpo humano. Su medición es compleja, requiere de conocimientos y de extremo cuidado de la técnica para obtener resultados consistentes. A partir de la medición de pliegues se puede predecir mediante el uso de fórmulas la densidad corporal, la masa libre de grasa y la masa grasa, información necesaria para poder determinar el estado de nutrición de una persona. El alumno aprende y practica las técnicas de medición de los pliegues cutáneos: bicipital, tricipital, subescapular, suprailiaco, supraespinal y abdominal. Se requiere de torundas con alcohol, lápiz de fibra fino, cinta antropométrica y plicómetro. Para medir cualquiera de los pliegues mencionados se debe ubicar el sitio anatómico de referencia, marcarlo y medirlo siempre sosteniendo el pliegue hasta finalizar el uso del plicómetro. Los alumnos se integran en equipos de 3 para contar con: modelo, técnico evaluador y ayudante o anotador, los resultados se registran en el formato correspondiente, utilizando el método de Durnin por sumatoria de 4 pliegues se obtiene la masa grasa en kilogramos y el porcentaje de grasa.
