Región Frailesca: hay maíz, hay frijol, pero dinero no hay

Abstract

La dinámica de producción en la Frailesca está basada en el sector agropecuario. En la región, la crisis rural -que se agudizó a principios de 1990- ha impactado negativamente en los niveles de producción y de ingreso de los principales sistemas productivos: la cafeticultura, la ganadería y el cultivo de maíz. Las problemáticas asociadas a estos sistemas se ven reflejadas en los procesos de descapitalización y empobrecimiento de los productores agropecuarios, así como el incremento de la actividad migratoria7. Esta región del estado de Chiapas, reciente la crisis post Tratado de Libre Comercio de América del Norte (TLCAN) de una manera muy directa, precisamente por ser un importante productor de maíz a nivel estatal y nacional además por estar más ligada al mercado. De pronto los campesinos y rancheros ya no pueden competir con los productores de Estados Unidos.
