Abstract

Tıbbi ve aromatik bitkiler içerdikleri sekonder metabolitlerden dolayı geçmişten günümüze farklı amaçlarla kullanılmaktadırlar. Bu bitkiler; çoğu zaman doğrudan kullanılabilirken bazı durumlarda farklı çözücülerde hazırlanmış ekstraktları veya esansiyel yağları kullanılmaktadır. Farklı biyolojik aktivitelere sahip esansiyel yağlar gıda, sağlık ve kozmetik gibi alanlarda sıkça kullanılmaktadır. Vetiveria zizanioides (L.) Nash bitkisinin esansiyel yağı en yaygın kullanılan yağlardan biridir. Bu bitki çok yıllık, yoğun, sağlam ve demet tip otsu bir gövdeye ve oldukça derin ve güçlü kök sistemine sahip bir bitkidir. Bitki, antimikrobiyal, antifungal, antiviral, antikarsinojenik vb. Birçok biyolojik aktiviteye sahiptir. Bu çalışmada ilk defa yetirilen Giresun’da vetiver otundan elde edilen esansiyel yağın antibakteriyel aktivitesi dört farklı patojen mikroorganizmaya karşı (Enterobacter cloaceae (ATCC 13047), Enterococcus faecalis (ATCC 29212), Escherichia coli (ATCC 25922) ve Proteus vulgaris (ATCC 13315) değerlendirilmiştir. Bu çalışmanın sonuçlarına göre, vetiverden elde edilen esansiyel yağın dikkate değer antibakteriyel aktiviteye sahip olduğu anlaşılmıştır.
