Depredación de lagartijas Abronia por el Quetzal mesoamericano (Pharomachrus mocinno)

Abstract

Existe poca información sobre la dieta del quetzal mesoamericano (Pharomachrus mocinno) en el límite más septentrional de su distribución. Reportamos un par de eventos recientes de depredación de lagartijas del género Abronia por el quetzal mesoamericano en Chiapas, México. El 12 de julio de 2020, observamos durante 10 mins un quetzal macho adulto depredando a una lagartija del género Abronia en la Reserva Comunitaria de Tzama cun pümy en las Sierras del Norte de Chiapas. Además, el 3 de mayo de 2016 fue fotografiado un quetzal macho con un dragoncito de Smith (Abronia smithi) en El Triunfo en la Sierra Madre de Chiapas. Nuestros reportes, con base en evidencia fotográfica y datos de campo de interacciones específicas depredador-presa, representan formalmente las primeras del consumo de pequeños vertebrados terrestres por el quetzal para México.
