Notas sobre la biología reproductora del chorlo nevado (Charadrius nivosus) en el Lago de Texcoco, México

Abstract

El chorlo nevado (Charadrius nivosus) es un ave playera que ha sido recientemente elevada a la condición de especie, además de estar amenazada en la porción norte de su distribución. En México, su biología reproductora es poco conocida y sólo existen registros aislados de anidación. En visitas que realizamos al Lago de Texcoco, Estado de México, del 15 al 28 de abril y del 1 de julio al 15 de agosto de 2008 contamos el número de adultos y pollos, y estimamos la edad de éstos últimos y las fechas aproximadas de puesta; la edad fue estimada por la presencia del diente de eclosión y por medidas morfométricas. Registramos 67 adultos en reproducción y capturamos y marcamos 27 pollos de 12 nidadas; adicionalmente, avistamos (sin marcar) 33 pollos de 17 nidadas. La fecha de puesta más temprana fue el 20 de marzo y la más tardía el 18 de junio. La información presentada constituye la primera evidencia documentada de reproducción del chorlo nevado en el Valle de México.
