This paper provides an update on the floating liquefaction (FLNG) and storage and regas (FSRU) industry over the last 3 years since the publication of the first papers in 2016 and 2017. Much has changed in the FLNG industry with four units now producing and others in construction. The FSRU market has somewhat slowed when compared to the rapid growth in earlier years and there has been a significant shift in new vessel ownership from the shipping companies to the energy companies. This update paper covers the number and location of the FLNG and FSRU current vessels, those in construction, cost updates where known, commercial trends, market outlook, new and emerging technologies and the current attitude to risk – the latter being very different for floating liquefaction when compared to storage and regas.
