Abstract

RESUMO Introdução: O carcinoma medular da tireoide (CMT) é um tumor neuroendócrino raro, e representa cerca de 3 a 10% dos carcinomas de tireoide. Entretanto, sua detecção e intervenção precoces podem modificar a evolução do CMT. Objetivo: Identificar a frequência do carcinoma medular de tireoide registrada em fontes institucionais (FI) entre 2000 e 2014 no Brasil e suas implicações na saúde pública. Métodos: Estudo descritivo de dados secundários, obtidos no sítio eletrônico desenvolvido pelo INCA, Integrador-RHC. Resultados: Identificaram-se 799 casos de CMT, o que representa 2,0% das neoplasias de tireoide registradas em (FI) no Brasil. Entre 2000 e 2011, houve uma tendência crescente do número de casos registrados da doença, seguida de tendência de queda. Conclusão: Este estudo identificou um percentual de CMT inferior à literatura médica. Podemos conjecturar quatro possíveis motivos: a proporção é realmente inferior, há problemas no diagnóstico clínico histológico, de acesso ao tratamento ou no registro da doença. De todo modo, são relevantes novos estudos e práticas para aprimorar o rastreamento e qualificar o registro desta patologia, visto que a detecção e intervenção precoces podem modificar a evolução do CMT.
