Izmir, Istanbul, Kahire gibi Osmanli sehirlerinde yazarin Dogu egzotizmi hevesi, Dogu’nun giderek modernlesmesi ve Batililasmasiyla ancak bazen gerceklesmekte, fakat cogu zaman hayal kirikligiyla sonuclanmaktadir. Bu celiskili bakis acilari imalarla, Dogu-Bati karsilastirmalariyla, mahcup ve guvenilmez bir anlati dâhilinde ironi ve taslamayla aktarilir.
