Fresh versus Frozen embryo transfer

Fresh versus Frozen embryo transfer

Abstract

IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) treatment has been the hope of many women to achieve pregnancies and carrying home children for many years. ART (Assisted Reproduction Technology) has developed and produced a lot of ways and technical methods, through technology and genetics that have huge success impact in infertility. Recently it has been suggested that FET (frozen embryo transfer) has increased success rates (clinical pregnancy rates, live birth rates, implantation rates) compared to fresh embryo transfer. In the current study, the effectiveness on pregnancy outcomes of FET method following ‘freeze all’ strategy (FET) will be assessed in comparison with fresh embryo transfer. Outcomes were measured regarding the first embryo transfer after freezing all embryos compared to the first fresh embryo transfer. The aim of this study was to compare fresh cycles to frozen thawed cycles (FET) in women of different ages regarding the probability of positive human chorionic gonadotropin test and that of live birth. The analysis was carried out based on the day of embryo transfer and the number of embryos transferred in each embryo transfer. The investigation was performed in women who underwent ART treatments in a private IVF center in Thessaloniki during a certain time period.
