Abstract

Resourcing Australia’s Prosperity (RAPi) is the Australian Government’s 35-year precompetitive geoscience initiative, led by Geoscience Australia, to accelerate the discovery of critical minerals and other resources, to support Australia’s net zero transition and enable responsible management of all resources.As part of RAPi, 12 ‘deep dive’ projects will provide a more detailed understanding of the resource prospectivity in selected onshore regions and collect more targeted datasets. The Birrindudu Deep Dive (BDD) project area in northwest Northern Territory extends into northeast Western Australia. The BDD covers several geological provinces, spanning a broad range of geological time periods that will be assessed for the long-term support of economically sustainable resources, the agriculture sectors, and social benefits for Australia’s regional and remote communities.As part of the Birrindudu Deep Dive, Geoscience Australia commissioned a fluid inclusion stratigraphy (FIS) study on the drill hole 82-68 located in the north-eastern part of the Birrindudu Basin, Northern Territory. FIS analysis, where volatile components trapped with fluid inclusions are released and analysed revealing the level of exposure of the drill hole section to migrating fluids, was performed on 175 core samples from 12-510 m. The results of the study are found in the accompanying documents.
