A convenient method of analysis is described for the MECA determination of glyphosate and aminomethylphosphonic acid involving the measurement of the HPO emission at 528nm. Calibration graphs were prepared for both compounds with detection limits being in the range of 500 ppm for glyphosate and 400 ppm for aminomethylphosphonic acid. Studies involving possible complexation of glyphosate in a number of natural water samples were also conducted. Comparisons of percent recoveries of glyphosate from these samples with a number of standard metal-ion solutions are noted. The use of complexing agents in order to improve percent recoveries is also described.
