This thesis presents the results of a preliminary survey of the gasteromycetes of Nova Scotia. Detailed descriptions are given of species collected during 1976 and 1977, or preserved in exsiccata at the E. C. Smith Herbarium of Acadia University (ACAD), the national mycological herbarium at Ottawa (DAOM) and the Michigan University herbarium (MICH). Descriptions are supplemented with photographs of specimens and camera lucida drawings of microscopic features. Scanning electron photomicrographs of spores, or of spores and capillitium, of species of the Lycoperdales and Sclerodermatales are included. Keys to each taxon are provided. The Nova Scotia fungal flora includes 42 gasteromycete species, representing 18 genera and 7 orders. A conservative taxonomic approach is taken in this study and only one provisional name given.
