Alegoría y revolución. La política de la literatura en El caballero de las botas azules (1867)

Abstract

La bibliografía crítica sobre El caballero de las botas azules ha venido oscilando entre su consideración como sátira social o su consideración como artefacto metaliterario. Los autores adscritos al primer marco exegético suelen subrayar el propósito políticamente reformista—o en términos más exactos, regenerador—de la fábula literaria de Rosalía de Castro (Davies, Rivera, García Negro, Rodríguez, Miguélez-Carballeira). Por su parte, los autores que defienden la consideración de El caballero de las botas azules como parodia de la literatura española del siglo XIX, inciden en el carácter metaficcional de la trama y en su voluntad de transformar el panorama de la novelística hispánica, dominado por el folletín y otras modalidades de la incipiente literatura de consumo (Risco, Gullón, Miralles, Fernández Rodríguez, Posada Alonso, Rodríguez Yáñez). Esta oposición se ha extendido incluso a aquellos trabajos situados en la órbita de paradigmas teóricos más recientes, como los estudios poscoloniales (Johnson-Hoffman), los estudios feministas (Charnon-Deutsch) o la sociología literaria (Fernández). En cambio, es obvio que a pesar de su polaridad ambas apuestas de lectura comparten al menos dos puntos de partida: el propósito de cambio (sea este político o literario) que actúa como motor de la obra y la ambigüedad semántica que atraviesa la trama.
