Scaffolding

Authors: Skerra, Antje;
Abstract

A child’s language skills are a key qualification for educational success and correlate strongly with achievement in school. Therefore, language development and support at school have become a mandatory component in the activities of teachers. The present paper introduces the concept of scaffolding, a concrete and effective method for promoting language learning. By using scaffolding, teachers can provide interdisciplinary language learning support on the basis of social theory of learning. An example is used to illustrate the planning and application of scaffolding in the classroom.
