Robotic Process Automation im Cash Conversion Cycle

Abstract

Due to the advance of digitalization, Robotic Process Automation technology has gained in importance in recent years and is already being used in areas of accounting. One of the main arguments for the use of so-called software robots is the resulting increase in process efficiency. This enables the release of employee capacities for value-adding activities. Automation in the area of the cash conversion cycle can reduce cash turnover in days, which in turn leads to more liquidity. Nevertheless, Robotic Process Automation is not yet used in many companies. The aim of this thesis is to investigate the reasons for or against an implementation of Robotic Process Automation. The research question is answered by means of guided expert inter-views. Seven persons in leading positions in the financial sector were interviewed. The results of the investigation showed that on the one hand the elimination of manual activities and on the other hand the reduction of error potentials speak as reasons for an implementation of Robotic Process Automation. However, on the other hand, reasons such as lack of resources and the sceptical attitude of employees and management towards the technology were mentioned. One of the main reasons against the implementation, which emerged from the results, was the already high level of automation.
