In this work, three different minerals, allanite-(Ce), åskagenite-(Nd) and pyrochlore were investigated. All samples were of natural origin and contained thorium or uranium. All samples were step-wise thermally annealed, thus reordering their structure. Changes were followed by the means of nanoindentation. Additionally, DSC–TG–MS, P-XRD, IR-, Raman-, PL-, and Mössbauer spectroscopy was performed on suitable samples. It could be seen that all samples showed increasing hardness and elastic modulii, with increasing structural order. By comparing different allanite and åskagenite samples, it was shown that structural water accelerates the process of recrystallisation. Mössbauer meassurements showed that the distribution of iron on their two positions changes through radiation damage, a process which is reversible through thermal annealing. Finally, it could be shown that hardness and elastic modulus are sensible parameters for the structural order of a sample.
