Abstract

Enterohämorrhagische Escherichia coli (EHEC) sind die dritthäufigsten gemäß IfSG gemeldeten bakteriellen Gastroenteritis-Erreger. Die Infektion kann auf verschiedene Weise erfolgen, insbesondere durch Kontakt mit Tieren, den Verzehr kontaminierter Lebensmittel oder durch Mensch-zu-Mensch-Übertragung. EHEC-Infektionen können klinisch inapparent verlaufen, hingegen tritt die Mehrzahl der manifesten Erkrankungen als unblutiger, meistens wässriger Durchfall in Erscheinung. Eine besonders schwerwiegende Manifestation ist das hämolytisch-urämische Syndrom, welches vor allem bei Kindern auftritt und bis zum Nierenversagen führen kann. Der Ratgeber gibt einen Überblick über die Charakteristika des Erregers, klinische Symptomatik von EHEC-Erkrankungen, Diagnostik, Therapie sowie Infektionsschutz und Hygienemaßnahmen.

RKI guideline to EHEC infections Enterohaemorrhagic Escherichia coli (EHEC) are the third most common bacterial gastroenteritis pathogens reported according to the IfSG. An infection can occur in various ways, in particular through contact with animals, consumption of contaminated food, or human-to-human transmission. EHEC infections can be clinically inapparent, whereas the majority of clinical infections present as non-bloody, mostly watery diarrhea. A particularly serious manifestation is the hemolytic uremic syndrome, which occurs mainly in children and can lead to kidney failure. The guideline provides an overview of the characteristics of the pathogen, clinical symptoms of EHEC diseases, diagnostics and treatment, as well as infection control and hygiene measures.
