
The 2025 International Fisheries Stock Assessment Workshop covered a range of topics relevant to the development of management regimes that best achieve management goals. This high-quality research included work on the South African stocks of sardine, anchovy and squid. The workshop also discussed the implications of not having regular fishery-independent surveys, and appropriate target reference points for low trophic level species. This report starts with observations from the Panel on some general issues for the species and analysis programmes reviewed. As an initial guide to cross-cutting issues, the Panel constructed Table 1 based on the documents provided prior to the review. It then focused on answering questions posed to the Panel, providing a more detailed technical review and recommendations where necessary. As in past years, much of this report reflects responses to the questions posed by the Fisheries Branch of the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE) to the Panel.
