Violence and the "nonviolent communication" in the context of schools

Abstract

In this thesis the phenomenon of violence at schools is examined philosophically and it is discussed to what extent the institution could function without violence. From a socio-philosophical perspective schools represent a regulatory authority and they are a place where the contributors are sensitized to forms of violence. Significant points of this thesis are the research on violence at schools as an institution, the various philosophical approaches concerning the phenomenon of violence and the method Nonviolent Communication as a potential regulator for prohibiting or resolving violence. Case studies are discussed and the method is applied. It is also investigated in how far the concept of Nonviolent Communication as a basic theory could meet the various philosophical views on the concept of violence. Moreover, it is examined whether the term Nonviolent Communication is really non-violent. Finally, Axel Honneth‘s writing The Struggle for Recognition is discussed together with the method Nonviolent Communication.
