Paulus gründete Mitte des 1. Jh. n. Chr. eine frühchristliche Gemeinde in Korinth inmitten eines bunten und vernetzten sozialen Umfelds. Besonders eng in Verbindung mit der ἐκκλησία standen von Beginn an die lokale jüdische Gemeinde, verschiedene pagane Vereinigungen sowie Gemeinschaften auf der Haushalts- und Nachbarschaftsebene. Die vorliegende Arbeit beleuchtet ausgehend von Prinzipien der sozialen Netzwerkanalyse, inwiefern Paulus durch seine jüdische Identität, sein Handwerk und seinen konkreten Wohnort in Korinth Zugang zu verschiedenen sozialen Netzwerken hatte und er diese für seine Rekrutierung nutzte. Es wird untersucht, wie Paulus Beziehungen aufbaute und vertiefte und so mit einer Mischung aus aktiver und passiver Verkündigung die frühchristliche Gemeinde Korinths gründete. Ebenfalls beleuchtet wird das soziale Netzwerk der ἐκκλησία selbst und das soziale Kapital, über welches sie verfügte und das es ihr ermöglichte, auch unabhängig vom Engagement des Paulus selbstständig zu bestehen und zu wachsen.

In the middle of the 1st century CE, Paul founded an Early Christian community in Corinth amidst a colorful and interconnected social environment. Especially the local Jewish συναγωγή, various pagan associations, and communities at the household and neighborhood level were in close contact with the ἐκκλησία from the very beginning. Based on the principles of Social Network Analysis, I examine how Paul had access to these social networks through his Jewish identity, his craft, and his place of residence in Corinth and how he used these contacts for his recruitment. I explore how Paul established and strengthened relationships and thus founded the Christ assembly in Corinth with a combination of active and passive recruitment. Moreover, I investigate the social network of the ἐκκλησία itself as well as its social capital, which enabled the Christ group to eventually survive and thrive without Paul’s constant involvement.
