Pandemie in Wien

Abstract

Die Masterarbeit behandelt die Spanischen Grippe in Wien und untersucht ihren Einfluss auf Sterbematriken der Jahre 1913-1923 im heutigen 23. Wiener Gemeindebezirk. Die Jahre sind derart gewählt, damit sie einen Vergleich der Mortalität vor und während der Pandemie zulassen. Weil der Bezirk zu jener Zeit aus acht separaten Orten bestand, werden die jeweiligen Dörfer zunächst einzeln bearbeitet und danach ein Gesamtbild aller Daten zusammengefasst. Mit Hilfe der Sterbebücher werden folgende Statistiken erstellt: Gesamtmortalität des Untersuchungszeitraums, Mortalität pro Jahr, Anzahl der Grippeverstorbenen, Folgetode einer Influenzainfektion und Geschlechterverhältnis. Nachdem die Spanische Influenza in Wien wenig erforscht ist, soll die Abhandlung einen Beitrag zur Erweiterung der Stadt- bzw. Bezirksgeschichte darstellen.
