Abstract

‚Theocratic logic‘ means a universal practice of domination which can be at least traced back to ancient times, and which can still be found in modern theories. In order to both verify this ‘theocratic logic’ and outline its functioning principles, this work thoroughly analyses some influential writings of political theory as well as of the natural sciences, economy and psychoanalyses/medicine. The designation ‚theocratic logic‘ points to the logics’ principle that derives from the hierarchically organized superordination of God over others. The storytelling needs not explicitly include God, since the ‘theocratic logic’ simply marks the principal of hierarchical regulation based on the model of God’s superiority, yet not necessarily of God himself. This work considers the ‘theocratic logic’ problematic for both the human being and human cohabitation. Therefore ‘theocratic logic’ indicates a practice of domination that needs to be overcome. The modes of action of the ‚theocratic logic‘ also mirror practices of domination which have been criticized by dis/ability studies, postcolonial theory, discourses on precariousness and queer-feminist theories. In order to overcome the ‘theocratic logic’, this work offers to call the critical political theories mentioned above in action. Subsumed under the term ‘theories twisting theories’, these critical theories are supposed to twist around hegemonic theories radically, including democracy or democratic theory as one prominent example of the ‘theocratic logic’. This means nothing less than its sustainable dismissal.
