This thesis attempts to reveal the phenomenon „Frida Kahlo“ from various perspectives. In order to deliver insight into the conditions of the artist as a cult-figure, it’s meaning and social status in modern society, a historical account as well as an analysis of the history of ideas will be undertaken. A special focus is placed on the meaning of the „creative spirit“ in the context of modernity. The research interest is centred on questions as: What does the artist stand for? What kind of ideas or values does he or she represent? In which context had those become relevant? And finally: Whom or what does Frida Kahlo represent?
