ESTUDIO DEL LENGUAJE SEXISTA EN LOS MEDIOS DE COMUNICACIÓN A TRAVÉS DE BIG DATA

Abstract

En esta investigación se ha llevado a cabo un estudio del lenguaje periodístico para determinar si se hace uso del lenguaje sexista en los medios de comunicación. La metodología utilizada para el estudio se ha basado en las técnicas de análisis de big data, entendido este concepto, en general, como los grandes conjuntos de información que por sus características no pueden ser obtenidos, gestionados ni procesados por herramientas tradicionales en un período de tiempo razonable. Dentro de todo el conjunto de big data, hemos seleccionado la plataforma de microblogging Twitter, debido a la gran cantidad de información textual que contiene, a sus características estructurales y a su capacidad para mostrarse como elemento de comunicación masivo. Para poder trabajar de este modo, hemos desarrollado una herramienta informática de autor que nos ha permitido acceder a los datos de las cuentas de cinco periódicos españoles.

L’objectif de cette étude est d’examiner le langage dans les moyens de communication pour déterminer s’ils utilisent un langage sexiste. La méthologie employée est basée sur la technologie big data. Nous entendons par big data les ensembles de données qui deviennent si volumineux qu’ils ne peuvent pas être obtenus, gérés ou traités avec des médias traditionnels. En particulier, nous avons sélectionné le service de microblogging Twitter, à cause de l’information textuelle qui contient, de ses caractéristiques structurelles et de sa capacité d’être un élément de communica-tion masif. Pour cette fin, nous avons développé un software qui nous a permis d’accéder à l’information des les comptes de Twitter de cinq journaux espagnols.

The aim of this article is to analyze the journalistic language to determine the use of sexist language in mass media. The methodology has been based in big data technology, meaning by big data the vast amount of information that cannot be obtained, managed or processed by traditional methods. In particular, we have focused in the microblogging platform Twitter, due to the huge quantity of textual data that it contains, and also to its structural features and its capacity of being a global mass media. In order to do so, we have developed a software tool that allows us to access to the Twitter accounts of five Spanish newspapers.
