A Study on Print Gloss of Double Coating

Abstract

高品質化が進んでいるA2塗工紙では,印刷光沢の向上は重要な項目であるが,インキセットが遅くなる方向であり,インキセット―印刷光沢バランス向上が重要なテーマとなっている。本報では,ダブル塗工紙でのインキセット―印刷光沢バランスの向上を目的に,アンダー塗料の顔料形状・粒度,アンダー・トップラテックスの耐溶剤性レベルおよびアンダー層の塗工量を変更してダブル塗工紙のインキセット,印刷光沢への影響を確認,ダブル塗工紙の印刷光沢発現機構について検討した。従来,ダブル塗工紙のインキセットは,トップ塗工層表面の影響が非常に大きいと考えられていたが,インキビヒクルの塗工紙への浸透状態を観察したところ,ビヒクルはトップ塗工層を通過してアンダー塗工層に達していることがわかった。このことから,トップ塗工層表面の影響以外にも,アンダー塗工層の耐溶剤性(インキ吸収性)が,直接ダブル塗工紙のインキセットに影響を及ぼしていることが確認できた。また,印刷光沢は,インキがセットした後の印刷表面の平滑性により決まるが,アンダー塗工層の平滑性を高め,かつダブル塗工紙の平滑性を高めることにより,印刷光沢を高くできることがわかった。具体的には,アンダー塗工層に微粒顔料を使用して,トップ塗料に耐溶剤性の高いラテックス,またはアンダー塗工層の塗工量増量を組み合わせることにより,ダブル塗工紙のインキセット―印刷光沢のバランスが向上することが確認できた。
