The paper presents and analysis for the stability characteristics of axially compressed simply supported thin cylindrical shells stiffened by longitudinal stringers. Stringers and panels between stringers are treated as discrete structural components. Donnell's shell theory is used for panels, and each stringer is governed by a set of four ordinary differential equations.
