Deflection of Orthotropic Sandwich Plates

Abstract

T paper presents a portion of the results of analytical and experimental studies on the deflection of simply-supported, transversely loaded, Orthotropic sandwich plates. Various core depths, face sheet thicknesses, and aspect ratios of the plate are treated in the investigation. Experiment has confirmed the theoretical predictions that 1) the maximum deflection of an orthotropic plate subject to a transverse uniform load does not necessarily occur at the center of the plate, and 2) an upward deflection at some points on the plate surface may occur for a concentrated downward load.
