Doenças do sono e sua relação com transtornos psiquiátricos

Abstract

Alterações do sono estão presentes nos sintomas cardinais de diversas doenças mentais: depressão, transtorno bipolar, transtornos ansiosos, esquizofrenia, entre outros. De acordo com o artigo "O sono em transtornos psiquiátricos", publicado na Revista Brasileira de Psiquiatria - RBP, um levantamento realizado em cidades americanas apontou que 40% dos entrevistados que relataram insônia e 46,5% dos que relataram hipersonia preenchiam os critérios para transtornos mentais. Ainda segundo o artigo, as queixas mais frequentes dos pacientes acometidos por doenças mentais está relacionada à dificuldade de começar a dormir e também de manter o sono, além da ausência do "sono reparador", que pode ser observada na maioria dos transtornos.
