Abstract

El libro que presentamos al lector trata de arte, pero no sobre cualquier tipo de arte, sino sobre un arte antiguo que aún no ha sido valorado en su verdadera dimensión histórico-cultural; de unas concepciones estéticas que aún se encuentran presentes en nuestro inconsciente colectivo, a pesar de que por más de 500 años se ha tratado de borrarlas de nuestra memoria histórica. Es el resultado de la investigación histórica e iconográfica de una selección de cerca de 1.000 piezas cerámicas que durante décadas fueron recolectadas y conservadas pacientemente por el señor Paul Ziabloff (t), ciudadano libanés y entregadas generosamente en noviembre de 2.011 al Museo Arqueológico Julio Cesar Cubillos de la Universidad del Valle, para su utilización como material documental en los procesos de investigación, docencia y socialización de nuestro pasado prehispánico. Estos objetos cerámicos, que fueron elaborados por artistas con fines sociales específicos y que son portadores materiales de conocimiento, pertenecen a nueve complejos culturales relacionados con sociedades jerarquizadas de tipo cacical, que existieron en el suroccidente de Colombia y el noroccidente del Ecuador, entre el 700 a.C. y 1.550 d.C.
