Abstract

This study described the cleft lip and/or Palate cleft, tended in the Valle University Hospital between January st 1996 and December 3st 2001 period. The information was obtained trough available data telephone interviews and person to person surveys between mothers, using the same format for either one of the three cases. The target populations were 192 patients. This research focused on heritage and environmentally predispositions and exposure to possible risk factors during the first three months of pregnancy (alcohol consumption, smock, prescribed drugs, radiation without protection, and diseases): There were no significant results from this variables. The 13.5% suffer from another anomaly or associated syndromes. We have determined trough this investigation, that the most frequent presented cleft was, during this period, the unilateral left lip and palate cleft . Male was the most affected gender.
