Se revisan los estudios analíticos y biológicos hechos con el maíz hibrido colombiano modificado por el gene opaco-2. El descubrimiento de granos duros (fenotipo duro) abre la posibilidad de desarrollar variedades altas en lisina con mayor aceptación que la del maíz modificado, de consistencia harinosa (fenotipo harinoso). Se resumen los estudios hechos para comparar estas dos variedades del maíz opaco.
