Los problemas del bajo peso al nacer

Abstract

Con la Historia Clínica Perinatal Simplificada que se utiliza en el Valle del Cauca desde 1986 por parte de la red perinatal, se recogieron datos de 26,281 recién nacidos durante los años 1987-1988 para un estudio sobre bajo peso al nacer y los riesgos inherentes a esta entidad patológica, Se vio que 11.9% de los nacimientos eran de bajo peso (< 2500g) y 1.8% de muy bajo peso (<1500g) y que contribuyeron en 80% de la mortalidad neonatal. El riesgo relativo (RR) de Apgar < 4 fue 6.4 al minuto y 9.5 a los 5 minutos en relación con los neonatos con peso entre 2500 y 3999g. La membrana hialina y otros síndromes de dificultad respiratoria tuvieron RR de 64 y 15. El RR fue 3.5 para la ictericia y 1.6 para anomalías congénitas. En los neonatos con pesos entre 500 y 2499g se encuentran cuatri quintas partes de la mortalidad. Los problemas más frecuentes son la asfixia perinatal y la aparición de enfermedades respiratorias.
