Afrochilenos en arica: identidad, organización y territorio

Abstract

Hace catorce años la población afrodescendiente de Arica sale a la luz pública, después de permanecer durante generaciones en un ámbito privado, empañado por un pasado de esclavitud y negación. El siguiente artículo busca dar cuenta de la recuperación y reconstrucción de una identidad, además de la reivindicación y reinvención de una cultura material e inmaterial. Así como de las formas de expresión que han logrado cohesionar a la población afrodescendiente de la zona, dándose a conocer ante la sociedad ariqueña y conformando un movimiento etnopolítico que lucha por ser contabilizado y reconocido como grupo diferenciado frente al Estado chileno. Este proceso organizacional, desde sus inicios se desplegó principalmente en la ciudad de Arica. Sin embargo, con el transcurso del tiempo y las constantes reconfiguraciones al interior del movimiento, también se ha organizado desde una perspectiva rural. Por lo tanto, a partir de distintas territorialidades se manifiestan y reactualizan los discursos, validándose la lucha por ser reconocidos por el Estado chileno. En cuanto a la información recopilada para este artículo, proviene de entrevistas en profundidad realizadas a personas afrodescendientes, que habitan Arica y el valle de Azapa. Lo que ha sido complementado con bibliografía relacionada con temáticas como identidad, etnicidad y territorio.
