Cuerpo, vestido y nación: imágenes de la Comisión Corográfica 1850-1859

Abstract

El cuerpo se erige como discurso estético a través de un análisis semiótico e iconográfico hallado en varias acuarelas de los pintores de la Comisión Corográfica (Carmelo Fernández, Henri Price, Manuel María Paz). Tales imágenes evidencian que los códigos vestimentarios tejen modos de subjetivación social, inmersos en determinismos geográficos y discursos civilizatorios, elementos fundantes en el proyecto del Estado-nación colombiano. Las imágenes seleccionadas para el análisis develan, a la vez que consolidan el concepto de cuerpo ligado al del vestido como dispositivo de relacionamiento social, simbólico y cultural. Las imágenes se instauran como la fuente documental por excelencia, contrastadas con otras imágenes (editoriales de moda nacional) que relacionan discursos, señalan semejanzas y a su vez trazan diferencias tangenciales entre unas y otras.
