Abstract

Diversas investigaciones plantean la escasez de agua como un problema complejo y multifactorial. En este proyecto se analiza la disponibilidad del agua para el uso doméstico en la microcuenca del río Pixquiac, Veracruz. Se analizaron aforos mensuales en tres presas en la microcuenca y se midió la percepción y opinión de los usuarios del agua respecto a su disponibilidad. Se observó que a pesar de que el volumen extraído para usos antrópicos en las presas no ha variado, el agua que escurre en los ríos ha disminuido, alcanzando niveles críticos durante el estiaje. La mayoría de los usuarios perciben escasez desde hace al menos una década, principalmente durante abril y mayo e identifican como principales causas la deforestación y el crecimiento poblacional, seguidas por el cambio climático y opinan que la escasez y sus afectaciones empeorarán en el futuro cercano. Los resultados sugieren que la disminución en la disponibilidad se debe principalmente a una menor precipitación en las zonas media y alta de la microcuenca y una creciente demanda del recurso en la zona baja.
