Abstract

La adhesión celular es un proceso mediante el cual las células pueden hacer contacto con el medio extracelular o con otras células, permitiéndoles regular diversos aspectos como la morfología, la proliferación, y la migración.La adhesión es mediada por un gran complejo de proteínas tanto transmembranales como intracitoplasmáticas, que forman estructuras celulares distribuidas en la periferia y zonas de proyección celular, así como en las regiones centrales de las células. Estos complejo proteicos o sitios de adhesión sufren un proceso de ¨maduración¨ que va desde pequeños sitios de anclaje no vinculados al citoesqueleto de actina, conocidos como contactos focales, hasta grandes sitios de adhesión con interacción y anclaje con el citoesqueleto conocidos como adhesiones focales.El estudio de los mecanismos de adhesión celular tiene importantes repercusiones en la comprensión de fenómenos como la migración y metástasis de células cancerosas, los procesos de regeneración y cicatrización, o los mecanismos de formación de nuevos tejidos y órganos durante el desarrollo embrionario. La detección de sitios de adhesión mediante técnicas de inmunofluorescencia, así como el marcaje del citoesqueleto de actina, arroja información científica relevante, pero además genera hermosas imágenes que dan fe de lo maravilloso y complejo de la célula.
