Abstract

Resumen: Descubre el mundo dinámico de los radicales libres: moléculas con un electrón solitario y una reactividad extraordinaria. Esenciales en la química moderna, estos agentes de cambio impulsan desde la creación de polímeros hasta la vital respiración celular. Más allá de su reputación ambigua, los radicales libres son protagonistas en la naturaleza y la tecnología, facilitando la síntesis de nuevos materiales y desentrañando los misterios de la degradación ambiental. En nuestro cuerpo, enzimas y metales se alían para equilibrar su presencia, previniendo el daño celular y las enfermedades asociadas al estrés oxidativo. Su dualidad se revela en su uso en medicina y en la industria, demostrando que, bien manejados, son aliados insustituibles en nuestra búsqueda por comprender y mejorar el mundo.
