Desenvolvimento de impermeabilizante à base de Poliestireno expandido

Abstract

O descarte consciente, reaproveitando, reutilizando e reciclando todo o tipo de material tem se tornado evidente no cenário atual. O Poliestireno expandido, conhecido como Isopor®, é um dos materiais presentes em todos os meios, sendo produzidas em média 336 mil toneladas por ano no Brasil. Devido ao descarte excessivo, o qual ocupa muito espaço, sugeriu-se transformá-lo em um novo produto. Este trabalho apresenta o desenvolvimento de um impermeabilizante à base de poliestireno expandido e um solvente de baixa toxicidade e custo, a ser aplicado em diferentes materiais da construção civil. Foram testados quatro solventes orgânicos (limoneno, acetato de etila, terenbetina e acetona) e realizados testes de solubilidade, análise do tempo de secagem, teste de absorção, análise de ângulo de contato e de poros. Os resultados mostraram que o impermeabilizante desenvolvido com o acetato de etila junto com o poliestireno expandido proporcionaram uma redução na umidade, formando uma camada protetora no material resultando no sucesso da impermeabilização em diversos tipos de materiais.
