The state of domestic agriculture: The Mari El Republic case

Abstract

Subject. The article considers actual problems of agriculture in the Russian Federation on the Mari El Republic case. Objectives. The purpose is to identify and assess the condition of agriculture in the Mari El Republic to identify current problems. Methods. The study employs various research methods, like synthesis, analysis, comparison, induction, and deduction. Results. We investigated the key problems of agriculture, like aging infrastructure, the outflow of population from rural areas to cities, a decrease in the number of investments, a shortage of personnel, and others. Furthermore, we examined modern ways of support: financing, subsidies, support for entrepreneurs, improving access to medical and educational services. The paper considers the main theoretical features in the field of economics and agriculture, analyzes statistical material presented by Rosstat. Conclusions. The study suggests specific qualitative measures, i.e. the development of agricultural entrepreneurs’ culture, increased subsidies, improving the agricultural education, R&D, and innovation in this industry.
