Revisión actualizada sobre diverticulitis: avances en patogénesis, diagnóstico y tratamiento

Abstract

En los países industrializados, la diverticulitis ha aumentado significativamente a lo largo de los años, y en los países en vías de desarrollo, como México, comienza a presentarse con más frecuencia. El tratamiento de la diverticulitis del colon sigmoides ha cambiado en los últimos tiempos, rompiendo paradigmas y estableciendo un manejo basado en evidencias científicas. El paciente con diverticulitis no complicada suele cursar con buena evolución, mientras que el paciente con perforación libre necesitará cirugía, lo cual es poco frecuente y usualmente se presenta desde el primer cuadro. El lavado y drenaje de cavidad sin resección por vía laparoscópica cada vez se utiliza más, pero aún no es aceptado totalmente. La siguiente revisión analiza los cambios sustanciales que se han presentado para el tratamiento de la diverticulitis del colon sigmoides.
