Capacidad espacial y educación matemática: tres problemas para el futuro de la investigación

Abstract

Desde los años cincuenta los educadores matemáticos han estado interesados en la capacidad espacial, debido principalmente a su relación con la matemática en general y la geometría en particular. Términos como pensamiento espacial, visualización, orientación espacial... han sido tratados sin un modelo teórico de referencia, lo que dificulta la obtención de conclusiones válidas. Se proponen tres problemas para el futuro de la investigación: La necesidad de un modelo que haga referencia a la estructura factorial, a los procesos cognitivos y a las estrategias utilizadas en las tareas espaciales; la necesidad de otro modelo de desarrollo de los contenidos geométricos asociados a la capacidad espacial; y la necesidad de un modelo de propuesta didáctica que nos permita elaborar propuestas coherentes y eficaces.
