International vocational education research is a field of research in German academic vocational education and training (VET) research. The genesis and current status of this field of research are presented. A distinction is made between four foci in German-language research: Descriptive country studies, typologies/comparisons, transfer of dual training and international training management. Several contradictions in this research are discussed, such as a pronounced national self-centredness. A field-theoretical interpretation draws attention to the significance of the structures of the field for the contradictions. In the conclusion, an internationalisation of research practice is outlined as a possibility for reflexively dealing with the contradictions.

Die internationale Berufsbildungsforschung bezeichnet ein Forschungsfeld der deutschen Berufs- und Wirtschaftspädagogik. Dargestellt werden die Genese und der aktuelle Stand dieses Forschungsfeldes. Dabei werden vier Foki in der deutschsprachigen Forschung unterschieden: Deskriptive Länderstudien, Typologien/Vergleiche, Transfer dualer Ausbildung sowie Internationales Ausbildungsmanagement. Es werden verschiedene Widersprüche dieser Forschung diskutiert, wie eine ausgeprägte nationale Selbstbezogenheit. Eine feldtheoretische Deutung macht auf die Bedeutung der Strukturen des Feldes für die Widersprüche aufmerksam. Im Fazit wird als Möglichkeit zur reflexiven Bearbeitung der Widersprüche eine Internationalisierung der Forschungspraxis skizziert.
