Abstract

"En el debate sobre capital social, la corriente seguida por Putnam sostiene la importancia de la confianza, las normas de reciprocidad y el asociacionismo, componentes de este concepto, para favorecer la cooperación entre los agentes sociales y el desempeño institucional. Esta formulación ha implicado dar por sentada una relación directa entre esos componentes y, en consecuencia, no abordarla como un problema cuya naturaleza requiere análisis. Este trabajo se propone explorar estas relaciones en dos municipios de la República Mexicana a fin de establecer si estas relaciones se dan y, en su caso, la modalidad que revisten, así como su vínculo con el desempeño institucional. En uno de los municipios se encuentra cierta consistencia entre confianza, reciprocidad y participación en asociaciones lo que indica que este tipo de capital social tiene un carácter cívico, con predominio de referentes ciudadanos. En el otro municipio, con una marcada desigualdad social, el tipo de capital social que se reproduce es más cercano a formas comunitarias restringidas y personalistas. En un entorno de mayor igualdad social se encuentra una asociación entre ingreso y confianza que no se encuentra en un entorno de alta desigualdad social."
