Abstract

En este trabajo se modela una economía en la que el movimiento de recursos entre los sectores que producen bienes comerciables internacionalmente y los que producen bienes no comerciables tiene costos. Los movimientos de capital que aquejan a esta economía son impredecibles y su permanencia se percibe como limitada. El modelo muestra que, tanto el hecho de que los movimientos de capital sean considerados temporales, como la incertidumbre perse, limitan el grado de respuesta de la reasignación de recursos ante movimientos del tipo de cambio real. A su vez, esta resistencia a la movilidad amplía el intervalo de variación del tipo de cambio real, de manera que son necesarios mayores movimientos del tipo de cambio real para hacer frente a flujos de capital transitorios e impredecibles en relación con los que se requerirían ante flujos de la misma magnitud, pero de carácter predecible y permanente. El modelo muestra, asimismo, que luego de que entradas importantes de capital provocan una apreciación real suficientemente grande para inducir la reasignación de recursos, generalmente el tipo de cambio real se deprecia hasta un nivel inferior al original.
