Abstract

This study was keen to know the effectivity of aromatherapy with mixed lemon and mixed cananga flower oil and unpleasant odor in awakening drives during sleepy driving. Subjects (N=20) are drivers aged 25 - 50 years. The experiment was conducted with a within-subject or a repeated experiment design. A driving simulator was specially constructed for this experiment besides a biofeedback and reaction time apparatus. Result reveal thar lemon aromatherapy causes longer driving time than cananga aromatherapy and unpleasant odor did. Observation during the experimant and answer to the questionnaire after the experimant indicate that lemon aromatherapy could not eliminate sleepiness during driving. Unpleasant odor was effective to eliminate sleepiness quickly. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui efektifitas aromaterapi jeruk, bunga kenanga dan bau tak menyenangkan (bau busuk) dalam menyadarkan pengemudi sewaktu mengemudi dalam keadaan mengantuk. Subjek (N=20) adalah para pengemudi, berusia antara 25 - 50 tahun. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan within-subjects design atau desain eksperimen berulang. Sebuah simulator mengemudi dibuat khusus untuk penelitian ini di samping alat-alat biofeedback dan reaction time. Hasil-hasil mengungkapkan bahwa aromaterapi jeruk dapat lebih memperpanjang waktu mengemudi daipada aromaterapi bunga kenanga dan bau tak menyenangkan. Observasi selama eksperimen dan jawaban atas angket setelah penelitian menunjukkan bahwa aromaterapi jeruk tak dapat menghilangkan rasa kantuk selama mengemudi. Bau tak menyenangkan efektif untuk menghilangkan rasa kantuk dengan cepat.
