La importancia del oso andino y otras especies: Guía ilustrada de los mamíferos terrestres

Abstract

Hablar del Oso Andino de los andes colombianos y venezolanos puede parecer una redundancia tratándose de un habitante permanente de estas alturas, que caprichosamente por diferentes motivos ha tenido que migrar en el mejor de los casos, a lugares que lo hacen más vulnerables o en su defecto someterse a los costos que implica desaparecer. Ya sea por ampliación de la frontera agrícola, por la tala sistemática de los ecosistemas altoandinos y en muchos casos actuales, por la cacería furtiva, que ha diezmado las poblaciones de uno de nuestros habitantes característicos y determinantes en la geografía nacional, el oso de anteojos, (Tremarctos ornatus). Esta especie está catalogada como vulnerable, por todos estos factores, que demuestran los niveles de insensibilidad a los que ha llegado el ser humano. Atentar contra esta especie es atentar contra una identidad sagrada en las montañas nacionales, que se precian de su existencia.
