Sosiaalinen media – millaista sosiaalisuutta?

Abstract

Artikkelissa tarkastellaan sosiaalista mediaa sosiaalipsykologian näkökulmasta. Sosiaalisella medialla tarkoitetaan monimuotoisia ja vuorovaikutteisia verkkoympäristöjä, joissa käyttäjät tuottavat sisältöä. Tunnettuja esimerkkejä ovat Wikipedia, Facebook, YouTube ja blogit. Artikkelissa hyödynnetään Willem Doisen (1982) esittämiä sosiaalipsykologian selitystasoja, jolloin sosiaalisuutta tarkastellaan yksilönsisäisellä tasolla, yksilöiden välisellä tasolla, asemien tai ryhmien välisten suhteiden tasolla sekä ideologioiden ja joukkojen tasolla. Olennaisia tarkastelun kohteita ovat osallistumismotiivit, tietokonevälitteinen viestintä (computer-mediated communication CMC), verkkoyhteisöt sekä joukkojen toiminta sosiaalisessa mediassa. Artikkelissa päädytään kahteen keskeiseen johtopäätökseen. Eri teoriat painottavat sosiaalisen identiteetin merkitystä. Ryhmiin, yhteisöihin ja joukkoihin samastuminen perustuu sosiaaliseen identiteettiin. Toiseksi sosiaalisuus on yksilähtöistä ja kyse on yksilöiden välisistä verkostoista. Kaiken kaikkiaan sosiaalisen median käsite on hajanainen, minkä vuoksi yleistävien havaintojen tekeminen sosiaalisuuden luonteesta on vaikeaa.
